Despite turmoil, some development is underway in Trenton, new initiatives could attract more

Despite the turmoil and uncertainty in Trenton in recent years with rising crime and increasing taxes, development has been taking place — even if under the radar — said Diana Rogers, the city’s director of economic and industrial development.
 
Rogers, who spoke yesterday at the Trenton Economic Development Forum hosted by the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce, said a commitment from community partners and tax incentives have brought projects to Trenton.
 
She said new initiatives from the city Department of Housing and Economic Development are designed to support small businesses and neighborhoods.
 
“What we need is a business retention and expansion program,” Rogers said, adding that if Trenton creates a reputation of caring for the small businesses in the city, it will not only keep those businesses here but also entice others to move in.
